Transfer or delete a location

The two actions on the Danger zone tab: handing a location to somebody else, and deleting one for good.

Last updated October 14, 2026

The last tab in Settings holds the changes that cannot be undone from a menu. Transferring a location and deleting one are the owner's. Everybody who can sign in also finds Delete your account there, covered in its own article, unless this account resells to clients, in which case the card says Close the agency instead and points at the agency Danger zone.

What you need: to be the owner of the location. Transferring ownership and deleting the location are the owner's 2 powers, and no other role has them.

Data retention

The same tab carries Data retention, which is how long this location keeps the reviews it has collected.

Keep reviews for starts at 1 year and runs from 30 days up to 24 months. Reviews and replies older than the window are deleted by the nightly cleanup, and shortening the window cannot be undone, so a shorter one asks you to type the location name before it is taken. Lengthening it saves on its own, but it does not bring back anything a shorter window already deleted.

The action trail is on its own clock and this window does not move it. Which rule fired, who acted on a review and when, is kept for 24 months whatever you set here, so the record of what was done outlives the reviews it was done to.

The window belongs to the location, not the account. Other locations keep their own. The card saves itself and says so beside its heading.

Transfer ownership

There is one owner per location, so a transfer is a swap rather than an addition.

  1. Open Settings, then Danger zone, and press Transfer ownership.
  2. Pick the New owner from the list. Only active members appear: somebody with a pending invitation cannot take ownership until they have signed in.
  3. Confirm.

What changes at that moment:

  • They become the owner and get billing, the plan and the invoices.
  • You drop to administrator, so you keep running the location day to day and lose the money.
  • The payment method on file goes with the role. The new owner will want to replace it with their own.

You lose billing access as soon as you confirm. If it was a mistake, the new owner has to invite you back into the role. We cannot reverse it from support, which is why the dialog says so before you press the button rather than after.

If the button is grayed out, there is nobody to hand it to. Invite an active member first.

Delete this location

Deleting is permanent, there is no export afterward, and there is no undo.

  1. Press Delete location.
  2. Type the location name exactly as it appears. The confirm button stays disabled until it matches.
  3. Confirm.

The location is then scheduled for deletion and disappears in 24 hours. Email support@reviewcomet.com before that window closes if you change your mind. After it, the data is gone.

One refusal is worth knowing about in advance. If a client of yours can reach this location and nothing else, deleting it would leave them able to sign in and find an empty account, so we refuse and name them. Delete the client from the Clients screen instead and their location goes with them.

What deletion removes

  • Every rule, AI agent and saved reply in the location.
  • The whole review history, along with the insights and reports built from it.
  • Team access. Members lose it immediately, not in 24 hours.
  • The connection to every source in it. They are disconnected from ReviewComet and stop sending us reviews.

What deletion does not touch

  • Replies you already posted on the review sites. They stay posted. Nothing is removed from the sites on the way out.
  • Your other locations. Deleting one leaves the rest exactly as they are.
  • Your account. Deleting a location is not the same as deleting your account, and it is not how you leave. Delete your account on the same tab is.

Billing stops the same day, and there is no refund for the cycle already running.

Before you delete

2 things are worth doing first, because neither is possible afterward.

  • Export what you want to keep. The CSV export from the reviews feed follows the tab, site, filters and search you set, and the report can be saved as a PDF. Both are gone once the location is.
  • Consider disconnecting instead. Disconnecting a source from Sources stops us reading it and stops its rules firing, while the location, its history and its setup stay where they are. That is the reversible version of the same instinct, and reconnecting later is one sign-in.
