Keyboard shortcuts

The 5 keys that drive the reviews feed, where the cursor goes, what each one is guarded against, and the separate set the Approvals screen uses.

Last updated October 14, 2026

A busy feed goes faster from the keyboard than from the mouse. The legend sits on the line above the list, next to the count, so it is still on screen after 50 reviews have scrolled past.

The 5 keys

  • j moves the cursor down one review, k moves it up. With nothing focused yet, either key starts at the first review.
  • r opens the reply composer on the focused review and puts the cursor in the text box.
  • e archives it, or moves it back to the feed if it is already archived.
  • u undoes the last action that offered an undo.

The cursor is a focus ring, so the browser scrolls the review into view and a screen reader announces it.

What the keys are guarded against

Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing. Any text box, text area, dropdown or editable field swallows the letter, which is what lets you write "really enjoyed it" in the composer without archiving 3 reviews. Keys pressed with Cmd, Ctrl or Alt held down are left to the browser.

r does nothing on reviews where a reply could not work anyway:

  • every review while a trial is canceled, since nothing would reach the site;
  • reviews whose source has lost access and needs reconnecting.

e keeps working in both cases, because archiving is ours and touches nothing on the review site.

What undo covers

u takes back the last action that showed an undo button in its banner: archive and move back. Replies, copies and assignments do not offer one, so u does nothing after them. It is also the one key that works with no review focused.

Only the reviews on screen

The feed loads 50 reviews at a time, and the next 50 arrive as you scroll. j stops at the last review that is loaded, so scroll on or press Show more to reach the next 50. Changing tab or filter clears the cursor, which stops e from landing on a review you can no longer see.

The Approvals screen has its own keys

The queue there answers a different question, so it uses a different set:

  • j and k move, exactly as they do here.
  • a approves the focused draft.
  • r discards it.
  • u puts the last decision back.

e is not there. Nothing in that queue is archived by hand: every draft is waiting on a yes or a no, and the buttons on the row are the whole job. Filters on that screen apply to everything the keys touch, so a key never acts on a draft the filter has removed from view.

Tips for a long session

  • Start from a saved view such as Needs a reply, so j only walks reviews that need you.
  • Use r, write, post, then j to the next one. The cursor stays where you left it.
  • Archive the ones you have finished with as you go, so the feed shrinks toward empty.

What this costs

Nothing. Every one of these keys is a manual action, and manual actions are free. Only automated work counts against your credits.
